applications was funded by a
bequest from the estate of Charles Douglas Denney (1901 - 2002) to the Alberta
Genealogical Society - Edmonton Branch. AGS members Sheila Majeau
and Heather Harper completed data entry and
proofreading.

Alberta Land Patents
The records in this collection
(Provincial Archives of Alberta Access 1976.131) are applications for
land patents completed by Alberta homesteaders in the approximate time
frame 1885 to 1897. The files also contain the affidavits
completed in support of a homesteader’s application for land
title. Each file is four pages long.
These files exist only in paper
format and the names are not found on the Index to Alberta Homestead
Records
1870-1930. The files cover the following Alberta land
agencies: Beaver Lake, Calgary, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, Edmonton
and Lethbridge.

information was extracted from the land patent applications:

- Legal Land
Description (Section, Township, Range, Meridian)
- Surname
- Given name(s)
Although every effort
has been made to achieve accuracy in the data, there may be errors due
to legibility, variations in spelling of surnames, recording of file
numbers, etc. If, in your research, you discover a mistake, please let
us know and it will be corrected.
NOTE: Use the
Advanced Search facility on the search screen to
find spelling variations of names.

to View a Patent File
The files, in Provincial Archives
of Alberta (PAA) Accession 1976.131, can be viewed in the Reading Room
at the PAA. With the file number from the online index the researcher
now has easy access to all records of interest. Copy services are
available.
